Whatnot Fee Calculator
Whatnot no longer charges one flat rate. Since 21 September 2026 your commission depends on your market, your category and how much you sold in the last four weeks — so a calculator that shows 8% for everyone is now wrong. Pick your situation below to see the exact rate and what actually lands in your balance.
Standard tier ($0 – $14,999) → 8% commission on sports
| Item price (commission base) | $50.00 |
|---|---|
| Whatnot commission (8% · Standard) | −$4.00 |
| Payment processing | −$1.75 |
| Total fees | −$5.75 |
| You receive | $44.25 |
What changed, and why every other calculator is stale
Before September 2026 Whatnot took a single commission rate — 8% for most categories in the US, 4% for coins — and that is what nearly every fee calculator on the internet still shows. The new structure has seven tiers in every market, with a separate rate per category inside each tier. In the US, the standard tier covers the first $14,999 of four-week sales; above that the rate steps down, and a high-volume seller in Fashion pays 4.5% where a new seller pays 8%.
The practical effect: the same item, sold by two sellers in the same category, now carries two different commission rates. Any tool that asks only for a price is answering a question that no longer exists.
What you keep on a US sale (standard tier)
Commission plus processing, no shipping, no tax, no item cost. These numbers are produced by the same code the calculator above runs — they are not typed in by hand.
| Sale price | Commission (8.00%) | Processing (2.9% + $0.30) | Total fees | You receive | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $20 | $1.60 | $0.88 | $2.48 | $17.52 | 12.4% |
| $50 | $4.00 | $1.75 | $5.75 | $44.25 | 11.5% |
| $100 | $8.00 | $3.20 | $11.20 | $88.80 | 11.2% |
| $250 | $20.00 | $7.55 | $27.55 | $222.45 | 11.02% |
| $500 | $40.00 | $14.80 | $54.80 | $445.20 | 10.96% |
| $1,000 | $80.00 | $29.30 | $109.30 | $890.70 | 10.93% |
The effective rate does not converge on 11.2% — it converges on 10.9% (8% commission + 2.9% processing), and only gets there on large orders. On a $20 sale it is 12.4%, because the $0.30 fixed fee weighs far more there than on a $1,000 one. That is the whole reason a percentage-only calculator misleads small sellers.
How the calculation works
- Commission = item sale price × your category's rate at your tier. Shipping and tax are excluded — Whatnot commissions GMV only.
- High-value relief = for Sports, TCG, Other Collectibles, Coins in a qualifying category, the portion above 1,500 is commissioned at 0%.
- Payment processing = (item + shipping + tax) × 2.9% + 0.30 in the US, Canada and Australia; × 2.42% + 0.25 elsewhere, plus VAT in the EU and UK.
- VAT applies to both commission and processing in the EU and UK unless you are VAT-registered, which is why the calculator asks.
- Payout = item + shipping − fees. Sales tax is excluded from payout: it is collected on someone else's behalf, so counting it as revenue would overstate every figure on this page.

Questions
What does Whatnot charge per sale?
Two separate charges. Commission is a percentage of the item sale price — 8% for most categories in the US at the standard tier, 4% for Coins & Money, and less as your sales unlock higher tiers. Payment processing is on top: 2.9% + $0.30 in the US, Canada and Australia, or 2.42% + €0.25/£0.25 plus VAT in the EU and UK, charged on what the buyer actually pays including shipping and tax.
Did Whatnot fees change in 2026?
Yes. Whatnot replaced its flat commission with a tiered structure that took effect on 21 September 2026 for existing sellers, and on the following Monday for anyone joining later. Your four-week sales total sets your tier, and each tier has its own rate per category. Most fee calculators online still show a single flat 8%.
Does Whatnot charge commission on shipping and tax?
No. Whatnot calculates commission on GMV — the item sale price only. Shipping and taxes paid by the buyer are not commissioned. Payment processing works the other way round: it is charged on the total order value the buyer pays, including shipping and tax, plus a fixed per-transaction fee.
How is my commission tier decided?
By your total completed sales across all categories over a rolling four-week (28-day) period, in both live shows and marketplace. Every sale counts toward the tier, but the rate applied to each sale depends on that sale’s category. The period starts from zero and does not carry over, and the tier you unlock applies to the next period, not the current one.
Why is the EU and UK rate 6.67% instead of 8%?
Because Whatnot publishes EU and UK rates excluding VAT. 6.67% plus 20% VAT is 8.00%, which is the same headline rate the US pays. If you are not VAT-registered you bear the VAT, so your effective rate is close to 8%. If you are VAT-registered you reclaim it, so 6.67% is what it really costs you.
Do I pay commission on the part of an order above $1,500?
Whatnot charges 0% commission on the portion of a single order above 1,500 (USD, AUD, EUR or GBP) in selected categories: comics and anime, toys and hobbies, coins and money, trading card games, entertainment cards, sports singles, bags and accessories, and jewellery and watches. For sports cards it only applies to singles — sports breaks and surprise products are excluded. Fashion and everything-else categories get no relief, and Whatnot has not published a CAD threshold, so Canada is unaffected.
Is this an official Whatnot calculator?
No. It is an independent tool. The rate tables are transcribed directly from Whatnot’s seller fee documentation and re-checked against it by a script, but the calculator, the formulas and the explanations are ours. Confirm any figure against the receipt for an actual order in Seller Hub before you price on it.
